ALTENA
General:
ALTENA is an organization of global reach, based in the Netherlands, specializing in the epoxy coating of condenser fins, a scientific method used for the anti-corrosion protection of heat exchanger condensers’ fins.
The Negative Consequences Of Corrosion:
Especially in facilities with strong corrosive environment (e.g. seaside areas, industrial zones, etc.), there is a strong accumulation of various undesirable and harmful elements, such as soil, dust, sand, cement slag, salts, sulphides, oxidations, rusty particles, etc.
The above cause corrosion and therefore wear on the coil fins of the heat exchangers, drastically reducing their efficiency, proper operation, and longevity.
As a result of corrosion and wear of heat exchanger fins, huge unnecessary costs are created, such as increase in electricity consumption, or replacement of condensers. Furthermore, corrosion may cause serious operational problems to the machinery, such as shutdown, due to high pressures, e.t.c., or even total destruction of the machinery in a relatively short period of time.
Finally, corrosion causes decrease in the cooling efficiency of the machinery.
The scientific method of epoxy coating of heat exchanger condensers’ fins, provides the innovative, breakthrough solution to all the issues described above.
The Procedure Of Epoxy Coating:
- The frames and fans are removed from the machinery (whenever this is necessary), so as to apply epoxy coating on the inner side of the machinery, as well.
- Condensers are naturally cleaned – feathers and other impurities are removed with the use of vacuum cleaner, and small, fine tools, in a proper way so that no damage is caused on the fins.
- The fins are brushed (wherever this is possible) with the use of special tools, to ensure proper heat exchange.
- All electronic components of the machinery are covered with special nylon tape, for their protection against water and epoxy paint.
- Condensers are washed with the use of the appropriate chemical material – alkaline or acidic material, depending on the types of impurities (e.g. oils, oxidations etc.) existing on the condensers. Firstly, the appropriate chemical material is applied on the coils, and removed within minutes with the use of pressurized water. Then, the coils are thoroughly washed with the use of pressurized water, on all sides (externally and internally), to remove all unwanted and harmful elements (e.g. oxidation, sand, salts, etc.). The wash is continued up to the point that the dripping water is absolutely clean.
- The frames of the machinery are covered with special nylon tape, for their protection against epoxy paint.
- Using appropriate methods, special equipment and special material, epoxy coating of the condenser fins is applied, at five different directions, on all sides of the coils (externally and internally), with Alucoat 507 (aluminum – based epoxy coating, so that heat transfer from the condenser to the environment is not affected).
- The special nylon tape which was added for protection purposes of the electronic components and frames of the machinery, against water and epoxy paint, is removed.
- Frames and fans are placed back on the machinery.
Certificate Of Specialisation In Epoxy Coating:
Our Company Owns Certificate Of Specialisation In Epoxy Coating, As ALTENA’s Official Distributor, In Cyprus, Meaning That:
- We use material (epoxy coating paint, hardener, thinner), solely made by ALTENA.
- The whole epoxy coating work procedure is defined according to the standards set by ALTENA.
- The technical expertise (e.g. details for use of material, predefined time limits for the use of chemical material, angles in which epoxy coating is performed, types of chemical material used according to each case separately, etc.), is defined according to the standards set by ALTENA, and special training is provided by ALTENA for this purpose.
- According to the contract that TMC maintains with ALTENA, ALTENA has the right to perform random check on any epoxy coating project, to ensure that all of the above is strictly applied and performed as should be.
The Advantages Of Epoxy Coating:
Upon The Completion Of Epoxy Coating Application:
- All undesirable and harmful elements (e.g. sand, dusts, salts, oxides etc.) which cause wear and reduced efficiency of the heat exchangers, are removed, and epoxy coating is applied on the condenser fins immediately, offering excellent protection and prevention of further corrosion and wear. As a result, the life expectancy of condensers increases, thus preventing the creation of huge, unnecessary costs resulting from their possible replacement, due to corrosion.
- The creation of large, unnecessary costs is prevented – corrosion implies reduced cooling efficiency, and pressure on the machinery operation, thus increase of electricity consumption. Also, corrosion creates higher pressure on the depression (with many implications), and bigger stress on the compressors, resulting in the creation of huge expenses due to machinery damage or destruction.
- The machinery operates close to the conditions and performance levels of its original design, or at the level they currently operate, since further corrosion and wear of condensers’ fins is prevented.
Important Notes:
- The ideal scenario is to apply epoxy coating of condensers’ fins for preventive reasons, before the first signs of corrosion appear, i.e. immediately after the machinery installation. However, in case this has not been done, and corrosion has already started, then definitely epoxy coating should be applied immediately, so as to prevent further corrosion and wear of the fins.
- JOHNSONS CONTROLS – YORK, one of the largest manufacturers of HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) equipment worldwide, as well as many other manufacturing companies, confirm that epoxy coating is of major importance and offers many benefits, and broadly use epoxy coating application and recommended material.
